After completing my collegiate track season I began to train to go pro in the hopes of making the 2012 Olympic trials for the heptathlon. I was working a great corporate job and training. In 2010 everything changed, I was attacked on a bus and sent to the ER. I was later told that my track career was over and I would be lucky to walk without pain let alone return to full activity. During this time I was placed on disability in the hopes to lift my spirit I began volunteering as a track and field coach. The joy and excitement I had everyday waking up just to go to practice quickly turned what I thought was going to be a momentary activity into a life long passion. I realized that helping people from children or the elderly achieve their personal fitness, health and wellness goals was and still is my passion.
My mother was a professional athlete so as a young girl I saw the mental and physical benefit of exercise. I began playing soccer as that was her sport. By the time I was 8 I was doing ballet, soccer, swimming, basketball and running track. It was not until the 11th grade that I focused on track and field. I also began coaching the younger athletes on my travel team. I received a full track scholarship to Fresno State. It was during my time in Fresno that I began to volunteer as a track coach and help people with workout routines and meal ideas. Despite my job in corporate I didn’t not feel that was my career. I was asked by a manager at the gym I worked out at if I wanted to be a trainer. My honest opinion of trainers at that time was they went from machine to machine with a clipboard. It seemed so boring and uninspired so I decided if I became a personal trainer I would bring my athletic, swimming and dance background to my clients. I became certified in 2013 and in 2014 was certified in group training, water aerobics, lifeguard, strength and conditioning, TRX, as well as being a certified, USA track and field coach. I like to call my clients my “athletes,” because I feel that no matter the age, gender, skill set or even disability, everyone is an athlete. Being an athlete is the ability to push ones self to achieve goals they have set for themselves despite what others say or think. They can be from making it to nationals in track or walking a mile without stopping. Everyone should have a goal and my job is to help them achieve it while making it fun along the way. Rehabilitation became another area of personal training I was drawn to after my mother and my own personal experiences.

While I understand the need to be honest is crucial in the healing process, I also feel working hard, setting goals, and having hope, is just as important. I feel that my athletic and personal obstacles allow me to understand the mental and physical struggles my clients deal may face while on their road to a healthy and happier lifestyle. I’m an athlete who happens to be a personal trainer. I love to bring a different way of thinking to each session, be it a track, soccer, dance inspired, or a pool workout, but above all, make it fun and inspiring.
